Directions / Parking

Witney is 10 miles west of Oxford. This central location makes it well-placed for access from the Midlands, the South East and the South-West.
Plenty of free parking in town centre car parks. The Woolgate Centre, Witney (OX28 6FY) is very convenient, and allows three hours parking. If you want to park for longer, the Woodford Way car park (OX28 6GD) is just five minutes walk away.

There is no Assembly as such. Enquiries, SI card collection and download are in a small car park, off Wesley Walk and marked by a feather flag, accessed from the western corner of the Woolgate Centre car park.

Terrain Description

Historic market town on the River Windrush, with lots of alleys, modern housing estates and parkland around the River Windrush.

The Map

Map drawn Summer 2021 by Martin Ricketts, TVOC. Scale 1:5000, size A3.

Start Times

Pre-entry only. But see How to Enter below.

Start times 10:00 to 12:00. Start is about 1km from Woolgate centre car park. Course close at 14:00.

Courses

COURSE 1: 8.1km Men Open
COURSE 2: 6.8km Men Vet (40+), Women Open
COURSE 3: 5.6km Men Supervet (55+), Women Vet (40+)
COURSE 4: 4.7km Men Ultravet (65+), Women Supervet (55+)
COURSE 5: 3.8km Men Hypervet (75+), Women Ultravet (65+), Women Hypervet (75+)
COURSE 6: 2.0km Men Junior (16-), Women Junior (16-)
COURSE 7: 1.4km Men Young Junior (12-), Women Young Junior (12-)

You may enter any course you wish, apart from unaccompanied under 16s, who must enter Courses 6 or 7. To be competitive in the South of England Orienteering Urban League (SEOUL), enter your age class as shown (or run up). If you're not entering either of those leagues, then ignore the Class details; - just enter whatever length of course you fancy. Please note that you can expect to run 30% to 40% further than the course length.

Climb is negligible and will not affect any route choice.

Under 16s on the day may only enter Courses 6 or 7 (unless accompanied by a responsible adult). Course 6 does not require road crossings, but does require the crossing of driveways/entrances/exits. It has been planned assuming teenagers in this age category are familiar with complex urban maps. If in doubt, course 7 provides an easier but much shorter course.

How To Enter

Pre-entry only through Fabian4. There will be no entry at the event. However, we will keep pre-entries open through to 11am on Sunday (subject of course to map numbers). We strongly recommend that you pre-enter before leaving home so you know you have an entry on your preferred course, rather than trying to enter on your phone when you arrive at Witney.

Entry Cost

BOF members £12, non-members £14, Juniors and Students £5. Note that we have now ordered maps, so entry numbers are now limited.

Hire of a timing chip to register at each control (a SIAC card) £2.00 for seniors and juniors (lost cards charged at £65)

Facilities

Public toilets are available (charge 20p) at Langdale Gate, 300m south of the car park. Head past Waitrose, and the Langdale Gate toilets are immediately south of Waitrose.

Lots of cafes, pubs, shops near to parking.
