4Dec23-Final Details-Final
Please read the Final Details at the above link, it has key event information.
The Chiltern Challenge is TVOC’s premier event of the year. We are delighted to be able to use the mature Chiltern woodland and slopes at Bradenham, Park Wood, with longer courses also making use of Naphill Common. We appreciate the kind permission of The National Trust, Friends of Naphill Common and Mr A Stubbings to use these areas.
This event incorporates this year’s SCOA Championships and is a Junior Interland Selection race. If you think you are eligible for the SCOA Championships or are a junior wishing to be considered for Interland selection, then read these notes carefully before you enter. Entries for the SCOA Champs and Junior Interland events close on the 3 December.
Update 9 December Maps have been printed, so entry numbers for each course are therefore fixed. Entries will remain open right through to Sunday morning. However we have now sold out of Green maps, and have only a handful of maps left on other courses. Meanwhile if you have entered and need to amend your entry, please contact Alun at entries@tvoc.org.uk

Start Times
Starts
There are two starts. The near start for Light Green and below is 400m away. The far start, for all other courses, crosses a road (not marshalled) and is 1km away.
The event is using Si, it is a Punching Start with all other controls being SiAC enabled. A safety control after the finish has to be punched.
Starts are available from 10:00 to 12:15, with the following exceptions:
Black – Last start 11:45
Brown – Last Start 12:00
Interland Selection starts - 10:00 to 11:00
Those eligible for the SCOA Champs are requested to select a start time which allows them to complete their course and download by 1:00pm to ensure Prize Giving can take place at 1:30pm.
All participants are to ensure they select a start time to enable them to get to the finish before course closure at 1:45pm.
Courses
Black, 11.9km, 310m climb
Brown, 10.1km, 260m climb
Short Brown, 8.1km, 215m climb
Blue, 6.8km, 200m climb

Green, 4.7km, 180m climb
Short Green, 3.9km, 110m climb

Red, 5.3km, 155m climb
Orange, 3.0km, 105m climb
Yellow, 2.1km, 85m climb
Very Short Green and above courses have an unmarshalled road crossing on the way to the Start, and a timed out marshalled road crossing (national speed limit applies) on the course. Those that are M/W14 and below are advised not to enter courses above Light Green due to this road crossing. However Interland top year M/W14s targeting M/W16 selection next year are able to 'run up' as required.
The RED course is particularly appropriate for runners who are new to orienteering (and can be run as pairs). It is a longer course but without the technical difficulty of the Green courses.
Non members of British Orienteering are welcome to participate on any course. Families and small groups would find the Yellow and Orange courses more suitable.
