Controller's Comments
For level D events we don’t have a controller to check sites or to check control placement. However I usually provide an armchair controlling service to help maintain the technical standard, as I did on this occasion. Inevitably there is the risk that a control will be misplaced, as happened today.
This is of course a low key event, and competitors are normally quite relaxed when such errors do occur. So I was rather disappointed about the vehemence with which a couple of competitors disputed the location of 130. We have a hard job getting planners as it is without competitors chewing the ears off the planner. .
If you ever come across what appears to be a misplaced control, I would encourage you to merely state the facts and request someone reviews the control site.

Planner's Comments
Let me start with a massive apology to those running early on Green and Light Green – control 130 was placed in a wrong pit, about 40m NE from the right place. I had tagged the correct pit but, unfortunately, I managed to place the control in the wrong one. This is entirely my mistake and I hope it did not ruin your run. All affected competitors have been reinstated.
Apart from this, I hope you enjoyed your course. Kings Wood is an interesting and surprisingly challenging area for orienteering. I know some of you found the navigation more difficult than you expected.
This was my second event as a planner/organiser. I would therefore appreciate any comments (both positive and negative) you might have. Please email me at janusz.orienteering@gmail.com
Also, many thanks to those who helped make the event happen today.
