Scale 1:5000.The map is split by the Oxford Ring-Road.
White, Yellow and Orange courses stay on one side.
Red and Score courses use the southern part of the map, which involves crossing the A40 twice. You MUST use the bridge over the Ring Road.
There is a pond in the competition area passed by all courses. Please instruct any juniors you bring not to go near the pond.
Courses
Course | Length (km) | Climb (m) | |
---|---|---|---|
White | 1.2 | 10 | Suitable for young beginners. |
Yellow | 1.8 | 15 | Suitable for juniors with some experience or for supervised newcomers, and for family groups. |
Orange | 2.7 | 20 | Suitable for adult beginners and experienced juniors. Also suitable for family groups. |
Red | 5.9 | 30 | Longer (expect to run more than 6 km), but less challenging navigationally. Ideal for runners new to orienteering. You still need to be able to read a map, but it is more like an unmarked trail race. |
Score | Ideal for adult beginners. 28 controls. This will be a 45-minute `odds then evens' score. Get as many odd-numbered controls as you think wise, then switch to evens. Controls have different values (10, 20, 30) and there is a 20-point penalty for each minute your are late back (over 45 minutes). |
