A message for newcomers and infrequent orienteers

We would be delighted to see you at this and other TVOC events. This event, like all our events, offers a range of courses to suit everyone from newcomers to experienced orienteers. If you are not sure which course to enter, please contact the organiser (contact details at the bottom of this page).

Please note that, if you’re not a member of British Orienteering, you won’t be covered by the organisation’s public liability insurance for this event. You’re very welcome to take part, but please be aware that you do so at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered by British Orienteering’s insurance.

Welcome to the Oxford Street Series! A series brought to you by OUOC in conjunction with TVOC. The aim is to have eight weekly MapRun events based in Oxford, starting on Tuesday 20th January to coincide with the Oxford University term. Many of the events will feature a novel format, and both score and line formats will be used.

Entry: Entries online only here. Entries will close at 14.00 on the day of the event. £3.50 for BOF members, £4.00 for non-members. Oxford University Students run for free. If you are planning on accompanying an under-16 runner, enter yourself and select that you would like an additional map (£0.50). The under-16 runner does not need to be entered seperately.

Format: A 45 minute odds and evens (alternating) score course.

The event will use the free MapRun app. This is available on phone, as well as Apple and Garmin watches. It’s advised to have this downloaded in advance of the event.

Starts: Start window will be 18.00-18.30.

Assembly: The race will be based from The Rickety Press OX2 6DE. Please hang around afterwards for drink/food! In addition, the Rickety Press pub quiz starts at 19.30 on the night, so do stick around if you want to join in!

Parking: For those who are driving to the event, parking in Jericho is more straightforward than it appears. The easiest option is to enter Oxford from the north along Woodstock Road, and to park in the Walton Well Road carpark at ///gangs.slices.weds. Payment is by cash or the RingGo app. You do not need to pay any congestion charge if you enter along either Woodstock Rd or Banbury Rd.

Important Information: Anyone 16 and under must be accompanied at all times by somebody over 16 due to road crossings. Races will be at night so it is highly advised that head torches and high vis are worn.
