Saturday Series event open to everyone, with courses suitable for beginners. This is a self contained outdoor centre so particularly suitable for children, although there are some areas of unfenced water.
Note that we will not be using Air mode at this event. You will have to ‘dib’ your card into each control.
Do please try to share cars if at all possible, since parking at Hill End is somewhat tight.
The Map
A mix of open hillside, managed habitats and buildings. Many uncrossable hedges and streams mean that routechoice is the main challenge. We expect relatively fast winning times.
Start Times
Registration open from 10am to 11.30am.
Start a course any time from 10.15am to 11.45am.
Everyone must finish and report back to download by 1pm, even if you haven't finished your course.
Courses
WHITE: 0.8km, 10 controls. Short and suitable for beginners and young children.
YELLOW: 1.6km, 16 controls. Suitable for improving beginners and children.
ORANGE: 2.7km, 17 controls. Suitable for those with some experience.
LIGHT GREEN: 4.2km, 24 controls. As difficult as the area allows (but relatively straightforward navigation compared to most of our areas)
If you're a runner getting into orienteering, the Orange course is ideal, or Light Green if you are confident about your navigattion. For family groups, we recommend the Orange course, or Yellow if you want something shorter. For juniors, White and Yellow are good courses. No courses cross any public roads.
Course lengths are straight line distances between the control points. You can expect to run around 20% more than the stated distances!
How To Enter
You can register in advance, or just enter on the day.
We recommend you register in advance. This reserves you a map, and avoids you having to fill in a paper entry form. It's really easy, and there is no commitment. Just click on the Reserve a Map link below, and fill in your details, then pay when you arrive. Maps are reserved until 11:15.
If you want to enter on the day, then just come to the registration tents.
Whether you have pre-registered or are entering on the day, come to the registration tents which will be visible as you enter the Hill End site from the car park. There are three tents (1 is form-filling, 2 is paying, 3 is to collect your SI timing chip). If you have pre-registered, you can go straight to tent 2; otherwise go to tent 1.
