A MapRun score event covering Downley village and common, Hughenden Park and the hillside housing estates on the north-west edge of High Wycombe, linked together by woodland paths. Planner: David Gruar.
Event cost £3, cash only. The event will use the MapRun app and is now available to download. In the MapRun app, go to UK/Thames Valley/TVSS and the event name starts DownleyHughenden24. Paper maps will be used, so if you do not have the MapRun app you may still take part using `honesty punching’ and a watch.
To ensure map availability please register, ideally by Sunday evening before the event.
Due to it being an urban event, participants must be aged 16 or over.
Start/finish: Le De Spencers Arms Downley, HP13 5YQ. Parking in the car park to the rear or in spaces opposite the pub. If you are eating afterwards please order food before your run.
Starts: 18:30-19:30.
Terrain: a mix of streets/urban footpaths, open parkland and pasture, and woodland paths (which could be muddy). Be prepared for a lot of climb, especially if you are aiming for the further-flung controls.
Map: 1:10,000 street-O map. Hedges are shown, but (to avoid clutter) walls and fences are not. However, the boundary walls/fences of Hughenden Manor and its walled garden are marked with a purple “uncrossable boundary” line. Small x’s, where used as control sites, are benches.
Safety: Coates Lane between Downley village and Hughenden Park is out of bounds except at a marked crossing point, where it may be followed for about 20m to link two footpaths that meet the road.
