University Parks visitor map
Terrain Description
Open parkland adjacent to the River Cherwell, with paths, flowerbeds, rough grass and small wooded areas.
The longer courses will also visit the adjacent complex University Science Area for an added urban challenge!
The Map
The map will be at scale 1:4000
Courses
Course | Length (km) | Climb (m) | |
---|---|---|---|
Yellow | 2.0 | Suitable for juniors with some experience or for supervised newcomers, and for family groups. | |
Orange | 3.5 | Suitable for adult beginners and experienced juniors. Also suitable for family groups. | |
Red | 5.0 | Longer (expect to run more than 5 km), but less challenging navigationally. Ideal for runners new to orienteering. You still need to be able to read a map, but it is more like an unmarked trail race. | |
Score | 5.0 | A 28 control Score course. This will be a 45-minute `odds/evens or evens/odds' score. Get as many controls in the first set as you think wise, then switch to the other set. Controls have different values (10, 20, 30) and there is a 10-point penalty for each minute your are late back (over 45 minutes). |
