Radio finish

Before event

  • Ensure the battery pack is charged
  • There is a small button on the battery to check. On side facing up. 1..4 small blue LEDs on battery will light. 4 indicates fully charged.
    Indication will auto turn off (10sec).
  • To charge use the white cable and plug into a USB source.

Turning on

  • Check that the SI unit has been cleared and time synchronised (done with si-master along with the start control set)
  • Ensure 4G dongle is unplugged from the battery (uses USB extension cable)
  • Ensure the switch affixed to the white box (Raspberry Pi) is off (No LED)
  • Plug in 4G dongle to USB extension cable and wait.
  • Wait for the LED on the dongle to show blue / teal, (about 1 min)
  • Turn on the Raspberry Pi (button on white box) a red LED should show
  • Wait again for the 4G dongle to show blue colour.
  • When download team is ready punch the finish with a dibber and confirm the punch is received.

Deployment

The SI unit should be placed as per the planners instructions. The box should be attached to a couple of stakes using the velcro or bungee straps provided. This should then be placed behind the finish (when viewed from competitors perspective). It should be out of the way of competitors and public but within 5m of the SI unit. Ideally no further than 3m

Turning off

  • Open the box
  • Unplug the 4G dongle from the USB cable
  • Switch off the Raspberry Pi (button on white box) a red LED goes off
